Purdue Put On Probation

INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA today ruled the Purdue women's
basketball team will lose two scholarships this season and the
school must spend two years on probation.
The NCAA says a former assistant coach wrote a research paper
for a player and made more than 100 improper recruiting calls.
The NCAA -did not- punish current Texas Tech coach Kristy Curry,
who was Purdue's head coach when the violations happened during the
2005-06 season.
Former Purdue assistant Katrina Merriweather admitted to typing,
correcting and revising a paper for former point guard Cherelle
George during the 2005-06 season.
Merriweather and George were indefinitely suspended before the
Big Ten tournament that season. Neither returned to the program.
