Aggies Take Field For 20th Practice

COLLEGE STATION, Texas— The Texas A&M football team worked once on Wednesday working the majority of the time on the grass practice fields in shorts and shoulder pads.

“We had an okay day today, I think the 20th practice and a little bit of fatigue (showed today),” Coach Dennis Franchione said. “I think with our weekend schedule we can recover a bit. It was not all bad, but we are in the middle of the grind.”

Coach Fran mentioned they have not worked on Montana State yet, but will turn their attention to the Bobcats on Thursday afternoon.

Coach Fran mentioned defensive coordinator Gary Darnell has more confidence in calling more blitzes as the defense has gotten more comfortable with the system.

Coach Fran was asked about backup quarterback Jerrod Johnson.

“About Monday I saw more consistency, more confidence, happening for him,” Coach Fran said. “No, he is not where we want him to be yet. But he has minimized the bad plays and making more solid plays. The last two practices he is played with more confidence than I have seem from him.”

The Aggies will work once on Thursday before starting the mock game weekend preparation later in the day.

The Aggies open the 2007 campaign on Saturday, Sept. 1 against Montana State at Kyle Field. Kick is scheduled for 6 p.m. For ticket and other information go to AggieAthletics.com.
