OSAKA, Japan (AP) - America's Tyson Gay has won the gold medal
at the World Track and Field Championships in the 100-meters. His
winning time was 9-point-85 seconds. Gay survived a slow start to
pass world-record holder Asafa Powell of Jamaica.
Derrick Atkins of Bahamas was second with Powell third.
A crowd of 40,000, which included Japanese Emperor Akihito, saw
Gay pump his arms, beat his chest and shout in delight after the
victory.
Texas A&M's Pat Henry is coaching the men for Team USA.
