HOUSTON -- The Astros have fired general manager Tim Purpura
and manager Phil Garner.
Two years after making their only World Series appearance, the
Astros are dead in the water at 58-and-73 with no hope of making it
into postseason play.
Bench coach Cecil Cooper has been appointed interim skipper of
the National League club and team president Tal Smith will serve as
interim GM.
