HUNTSVILLE, Texas -- Sam Houston State quarterback Rhett
Bomar threw for one touchdown and ran for another tonight as the
Bearkats defeated Angelo State 17-13 in Huntsville.
Bomar was playing his first game since being kicked off the
Oklahoma football team just before the 2006 season. He was kicked
off the team for accepting payment for more work than he performed
at a car dealership, a violation of NCAA rules. He transferred to
Sam Houston State and sat out a year.
He completed 16-of-24 passes for 204 yards and had eight carries
for 24 yards. Bomar hit Justin Wells on a 64-yard touchdown pass in
the first quarter as the Bearkats took a 7-0 lead. He scored on an
eight-yard run with 2:15 left in the first half as Sam Houston
State, a member of the Football Championship Subdivision, took a
17-0 lead.
Sam Tindol returned a fumble 33 yards for a touchdown late in
the first half to get NCAA Division Two Angelo State on the
scoreboard. Brad Holcombe kicked two field goals in the third
quarter to make it 17-13.
