OSAKA, Japan (AP) - Historical performances helped bring a
golden ending to the World Championships for the United States.
Kenyan-born Bernard Lagat became the first to ever win the 1500
and 5000 meters at one world championship when he captured the
longer race on Sunday. Lagat only became eligible to compete for
the U.S. just days before the competition.
Allyson Felix became the first American woman ever and first
women since 1983 to grab three gold medals at one world
championship when she helped the 1600 meter relay team to a win.
Jeremy Wariner anchored the gold medal run by the U.S. men's
1600 meter relay team.
