Big 12 Names Dan Beebe As New Commissioner

DALLAS -- The Big 12 Conference named Dan Beebe as its new commissioner today, nearly two months after he took the job in an
interim role.

The former Ohio Valley Conference commissioner became acting as
commissioner in July after Kevin Weiberg stepped down. Weiberg held
the post for nine years and left for a job with the Big 10 Network.

Beebe agreed to a five-year contract. Terms were not immediately
released.

He had been the Big 12's chief operating officer since 2003.

Beebe has also spent the last four years as the Big 12's senior
associate commissioner. He served 14 years at the helm of the Ohio
Valley Conference.

“I am thrilled that Dan Beebe has been named our new commissioner. I’ve enjoyed working with him and have always relied on his good judgment and strong background in athletics. I’ve had terrific feedback from coaches and staff alike, whether they worked with him on NCAA interpretations or game related matters. Their common theme has been fairness and accessibility. One of them said, “You know with Dan that you’ll always get the same answer, no matter which school you’re calling from.” I like that.”
