Texas Tech, Fresno St. Highlight Sam Houston State's Most Extensive Home Men's Basketball Schedule Ever

HUNTSVILLE -- Non-conference games with Texas Tech, Fresno State, California-Irvine and Central Florida highlight the 2007-08 men's basketball schedule announced today by Bearkat head coach Bob Marlin.

The 16-game slate is the most extensive home schedule in Sam Houston State's NCAA Division I history. Previously, the most home games for the Kats in one season were 14 in both 1995-96 and 2004-05.

The excitement starts early as legendary head coach Bobby Knight makes his first visit to Johnson Coliseum in Huntsville on Wednesday, Nov. 14.

Marlin's Bearkats gave Knight his first loss at Texas Tech in Lubbock in

A 2007 NIT participant, Fresno State comes to Huntsville for a rematch of the pair's contest in the ESPN BracketBuster event in California last
season. The Bulldogs visit Johnson on Saturday, Nov. 24.

Two other top NCAA Division I opponents, California-Irvine and Central
Florida play in Huntsville on Thursday, Dec. 20, and Saturday, Jan. 5,
respectively. The contest with UCI is a return game with the Anteaters for SHSU's visit to California last year. The Central Florida game marks the start of a home-and-home series with the Golden Knights.

"We're excited to bring quality non-conference teams to Huntsville to play before the home crowd in Johnson Coliseum," Marlin said. "Our appearances in the NCAA tournament, the Preseason NIT, ESPN BracketBusters, and other major holiday tournaments have brought Sam Houston basketball national exposure.

It's a big step for our program to bring top NCAA Division I teams into our

Sam Houston State brings the nation's third longest home court
non-conference winning streak into the 2007-08 season. The Bearkats have won 29 consecutive non-conference games at Johnson since losing 73-70 to Texas A&M during Marlin's first season at SHSU in 1998-99. Only Duke and Utah State have longer streaks.

The home schedule begins Saturday, Nov. 10, with Dallas Baptist and also features eight Southland Conference home games including a showdown with defending league champion Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday, Feb. 9.

"This is the most home games we've ever had and that will really make a difference for our team," Marlin said. "Last year we were traveling the
first four weekends of the season. This year we start off with six of our first seven games at home. Assistant coach Jason Hooten, who handles our scheduling, did a great job putting together this slate.

"Obviously, our fans in Huntsville are excited about welcoming a legend like Bobby Knight to Johnson Coliseum. We've had a great series with his teams since he has been at Tech. But we want to make sure the fans don't overlook the other quality teams coming to visit. This is going to be a great season to be a Bearkat."

Reserved season tickets for Sam Houston State men's basketball will cost $150. The price of a general admission season ticket for all 16 home games is $100.

Sam Houston State also will offer a "Mini-Ticket" plan with eight games
(including Texas Tech, Stephen F. Austin, and Texas State-San Marcos) for $80 each. An eight-game Southland Conference ticket package is available for $70. Both these plans are for reserved seats only.

Finally, a combination men's and women's reserved seat season ticket is available for $200.

While season tickets are not being distributed at this point, fans can
reserve seats for the upcoming season today by contacting the Sam Houston State ticket office at (936) 294-1729. Single Game tickets will go on sale at a later date.
