COLLEGE STATION -- The Texas A&M men’s and women’s basketball teams will participate in a fundraiser benefiting children in Africa on Sunday, Sept. 9 from 4-7 p.m. at A&M United Methodist Church.
A silent auction will feature a collection of Aggie memorabilia and a spaghetti dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Christian Life Center of the church located on University Drive in College Station. Proceeds from the auction and dinner will benefit Nothing But Nets, a national campaign to raise money for the purchase of mosquito nets for families in Africa. For more information on the cause, log on to: www.nothingbutnets.net
Nearly 3,000 people die everyday in Africa from malaria and 90 percent of those who die are children. A $10 donation will buy a net that protects a family of four for four years. The nets are also medically treated so that they kill the mosquitoes on contact. The United Methodist Church, the NBA, the United Nations, Sports Illustrated and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation are partnering to make a difference for the people of Africa. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is matching all money raised by the United Methodist Church dollar-for-dollar.
