Bearkat's Byran Richmond Named SLC Defensive Player Of The Week

HUNTSVILLE -- Byran Richmond of Sam Houston State has been named Southland Conference Football "Defensive Player of the Week" after his performance in the Bearkats' 48-10 victory over Arkansas-Monticello.

A senior from Humble, Richmond led the Bearkat defense with 15 tackles in a 48-10 victory over Arkansas-Monticello. He also forced two of the Boll Weevils' three turnovers. Both fumbles he forced set up short scoring drives for SHSU.

Richmond leads Sam Houston State in tackles through two games this year with 23 stops including three for losses. He also has two pass deflections, a
fumble recovery, and two forced fumbles to his credit.

Sam Houston State is off to a 2-0 start for the first time since 2001 and
only the seventh time since the Bearkats moved up to the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision in 1986.

Next up for the Bearkats is No. 4 ranked North Dakota State Saturday at the Fargodome in Fargo, ND.
