HUNTSVILLE -- Jenny Pence, freshman for Sam Houston State, has been named Southland Conference Women's Soccer "Goalkeeper of the Week."
The Kingwood, Texas, product earned his first collegiate shutout Sunday in Sam Houston's first victory of the 2007 season, a 1-0 overtime win against Houston Baptist.
Pence allowed only one goal in 187 minutes of action this past weekend. Friday, Sam Houston fell to the Houston Cougars 1-0 in Houston.
Pence, who earned All-District and All-Region honors on district
championship teams at Kingwood High School, currently leads the Southland Conference in saves this season with 51 in the Bearkats' four matches.
Next action for Sam Houston State (1-3) will be a 7 p.m. home match Friday night at Pritchett Field when the Bearkats play host to the Texas Southern Tigers (0-3).
