COLLEGE STATION, Texas- The 4th-ranked Texas A&M soccer team will close out a weekend of facing Conference USA opponents with a match against the Rice Owls on Sunday at the Aggie Soccer Stadium. The match is slated for 6 p.m.
“We look forward to the game on Sunday against Rice,” A&M head coach G Guerrieri said. “It’s going to be an even sterner test than what we saw Friday night against Tulsa. Rice has some talented attacking players and a lot of experience. It is a game where they will come in thinking they have nothing to lose and will fight to get a good result on our home field. I’m hoping to see the 12th Man come out and support us in what I expect to be an exciting game against the Owls.”
The Aggies enter Sunday’s match with a 5-1-1 record after knocking off the Tulsa Golden Hurricane with a 3-0 shutout on Friday. Ashlee Pistorius netted her fifth and sixth goals of the season and chipped in her second assist. Pistorius leads the Aggies with 14 points in the last weekend before Big 12 play begins.
Rice freshman Kate Edwards scored in the 89th minute to post a dramatic win over the Texas State Bobcats on Friday night improving the Owls record to 5-2-1 heading into the game against A&M. Edwards, a native of Westlake Village, Calif., leads the team in scoring with six goals in the Owl’s last eight games.
Sunday’s game against Rice will serve as just the second meeting between the two teams. A&M defeated the Owls, 4-1, on Aug. 30, 2002 at the Aggie Soccer Stadium.
