COLLEGE STATION, TX -- College Station Independent School District posted a job vacancy last week with the A&M Consolidated High School Lady Tiger softball team after Head Coach Billy Hicks decided to make a career change and get into school administration.
Hicks has been the Lady Tigers Head coach for the past 6 seasons and in April picked up his 501st career win.
Coach Hicks has been working on his masters in education over the last couple of years and decided it was time to start using it.
"After 24 years, that's a lot of games to coach - lot of practices - lot of years being around the sport," said Hicks.
"I felt like this was a good chance to step away and the opportunity presented itself. So it gives me a chance to do something different and and still affect positively the youth of our community and try to do the best I can for our school."
Coach Hicks says while he'll continue to be an interim assistant principal at A&M Consolidated High School next year, he'll also conduct his Gulf Coast Softball Coaches Clinic in January and oversee the TexasPrepSoftball.net website.
In 24 years as a head coach Hicks had an overall record of 501-270-3.
