A&M’s Pendergast Garners SEC Honor

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M libero Megan Pendergast became the first Aggie volleyball player to collect Southeastern Conference weekly honors as she was named SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Sept. 24-30, the league office announced today.

The senior from League City, Texas, led the Aggie defense with 5.14 digs per set as A&M went 2-0 in its first SEC road trip, posting a 3-1 victory at Missouri and a 3-0 sweep at Alabama.

Pendergast had a team-high 21 digs at Missouri, marking her second consecutive 20-plus dig performance and her third 20-plus dig outing of the season. She also added a career-high eight assists as A&M hit .294 against the Tigers and notched its first win in Columbia since 2008.

Pendergast tallied her fourth-consecutive double-figure dig output with a match-high 15 digs in the sweep at Alabama as A&M improved to 12-2 overall and 4-1 in SEC matches only.

For the season, Pendergast leads A&M with 3.96 digs per set for the full season and 4.26 digs per set in SEC matches only.

The Aggies return home this weekend for a pair of matches that will be televised by SportSouth. A&M plays host to South Carolina (13-4, 2-4 SEC) Friday at 8:30 p.m. at Reed Arena and plays host to Mississippi State Sunday at 3 p.m.
