COLLEGE STATION, Texas—Texas A&M Director of Athletics Bill Byrne announced a couple of new additions to the 2012 Aggie football schedule today in his Wednesday Weekly message on AggieAthletics.com.
“Got some news for you Aggies,” Byrne exclaimed. “We have an update to our football schedule for 2012, just six short months away from kicking off the season. We have added Louisiana Tech for Thursday, Aug. 30, at Independence Stadium in Shreveport, Louisiana, which means we had to step away from our agreement for a Sept. 1 game with McNeese State at Kyle Field.”
“We’ve also added South Carolina State for Saturday, Sept. 22 at Kyle Field,” Byrne added. “We anticipate filling Nov. 17 with a game at Kyle Field while keeping Oct. 13 as our open date.”
“We have a contract out with one other institution,” Byrne explained. “But it has not been signed and returned yet. We anticipate the contract being signed very soon. Our options were limited due to due conference realignment. We expect the scheduling process to go much smoother in the future.”
Byrne also stated “as for the game with Arkansas, we don’t have an update on that location, but we are hopeful to have one in the coming days.”
“It is no secret we will be in the very best division and the best conference in the country in the SEC,” Aggie head football coach Kevin Sumlin said. “Now, it is up to us to put in the work during the off-season, spring and summer to be ready for the fall.”
