COLLEGE STATION, Texas—In preparation for the start of its inaugural season in the Southeastern Conference, the Texas A&M Baseball team will hold its first practice of the spring Friday evening at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.

After spending several weeks working with strength and conditioning staff and on individual drills, Friday will mark the first time the Aggies will be back on the diamond as a whole team in preparation for the upcoming historic season.

The team will begin pregame stretches at 5:30 pm and hold batting practice from 5:50-6:45 pm before throwing the first pitch of the six-inning scrimmage at 7pm. The Aggies will hold another session Saturday at 1 pm.

Eighth-year head coach Rob Childress and the Aggies return 17 letterwinners from last year’s 43-18 squad which advanced to a sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament.

The Aggies are already catching the eyes of the national media in the preseason rankings, as Texas A&M emerged as the No. 24 team in the USA Today Sports Top 25 Coaches’ Poll.

Texas A&M starts the 2013 campaign with a three-game series against Illinois-Chicago on Feb. 15-17.
