COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- The Aggie baseball team will open up the 2014 season three weeks from tonight against Northwestern. Friday the team had to break out some brooms before their bats in order to clear the ice off the infield tarp before getting to practice.

"We were able to dodge the bad weather Thursday and last night and had the trap down," said head coach Rob Childress. "We were able to get the ice off the tarp and the surface is great. It's not bad out here with the wind not blowing."

Some of the Aggie players looked at the "Ice Practice" as a good rehersal to the season opener since it usually is the coldest day of the year when the season opener rolls around.

"I'm excited about it because I know it's going to be freezing cold, like it always is every year," said outfielder Krey Bratsen.

"We had fun out here breaking ice out here on the tarp," said pitcher Jason Jester. "Everyone is going to whine a little bit, but when it's time to put the jersey on and step across the line it's all business," concluded Jester.

The opening weekend of the Aggie baseball season is February 14-16 against Northwestern. Game times are 6:35, 2:05, 1:05.
