COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- The No. 10 Texas A&M equestrian team (2-6, 1-4 SEC) closes out regular-season Southeastern Conference action Saturday as the Aggies ride at No. 1 South Carolina (8-2, 2-2 SEC). The Aggies and Gamecocks will face off at 9 a.m. CT at OneWood Farm in Blythewood, S. C.

“We want to finish SEC play strong at South Carolina,” Head Coach Tana McKay said. “Our first meet against USC this year showed us what our team is capable of, and I know we have the talent to be able to win this weekend.”

The Aggies and Gamecocks last met in October when then-No. 9 Texas A&M started conference action with a one-point win over then-third-ranked USC. The 10-9 upset featured a Most Outstanding Player performance from sophomore Logan Pluhar in horsemanship. The Aggies and Gamecocks have met 12 times in the history of the varsity equestrian format, and are tied at 6-6 all-time.

Texas A&M rode at No. 3 Auburn last weekend, dropping a narrow 10-8 loss to the Tigers, despite outscoring Auburn in the raw score, 1414.5-1322.5. The Aggies won horsemanship, 4-1, and tied the Tigers in equitation on the flat and reining, but produced higher raw scores in both events. Freshman Rachel Lucht and junior Haley Buchmiller garnered Most Outstanding Player accolades in horsemanship and flat, respectively.

South Carolina is atop the National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) poll for the 12th straight week. The Gamecocks haven’t lost a meet since the Oct. 25 upset by the Aggies. USC’s last meet was a Feb. 8 victory at No. 3 Georgia.
