LAS VEGAS — The Texas A&M men’s golf team ended play at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters on Sunday, completing the tournament in 14th place.

“Obviously, this was a difficult day for us,” Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. “Everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. For us, we need to learn from this, put it behind us quickly and get ready for our next event in Arizona. We played two solid rounds and need to draw on that moving forward.”

The Aggies finished with a three-round total of 41-over par (292-297-316=905), while top-ranked California won the event with a team score of eight-under par. Alabama, New Mexico, UCLA, Stanford, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma State, Florida, UNLV, Southern California, Duke, Texas and Georgia followed Cal consecutively, with Oklahoma finishing at the bottom of the field.

Sophomore Greg Yates (72-74-74=220) finished the weekend as the highest placing member of the Aggie contingency by tying for 19th place with a three-round total of four-over par. Sharing 19th place with Yates was junior Johannes Veerman (74-72-74=220), who was competing as an individual.

A&M sophomore Ty Dunlap (71-75-80=226) ended play in a tie for 48th at eight-over par while freshman Ben Crancer (77-74-79=230) finished in a tie for 62nd. Seniors Cameron Peck (74-78-83=235) and Drew Evans (75-74-87=236) completed the tournament in 71st and 74th place, respectively.

The Aggie men’s golf team is back in action March 16-17 when it takes part in the Don Puckette National Invitational Tournament in Tucson, Ariz.
