New Orleans, La.—The Texas A&M women’s golf team is sitting in 12th place after the first round of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate, hosted by Tulane.

The Aggies shot eight over par to end the first round with a score of 296. Tulane leads the tournament with a score of 282 (-6), with Duke (-5), UCLA (-5), Alabama (-3), Florida (-2), USC (-1), Baylor (+2), LSU (+3), Texas (+6), Oklahoma State (+6) and Purdue (+7) following consecutively. Oregon (+10) and UTSA (+10) are tied for 13th while Ohio State (+11), Auburn (+14), Colorado (+15) and Tulsa (+18) bring up the back.

“The first round today was okay,” A&M head coach Trelle McCombs said. “We shot our average. We just didn’t make a lot of putts. We hit the ball very well today so it just comes down to putting. We can get on a roll, put up a good number and make a move.”

The Aggies were led by junior Katerina Ruzickova who recorded a score of 72 (E) and is currently tied for 20th. Senior Sarah Beth Davis and junior Chelsea Mocio were not too far behind Ruzickova, each shooting 74 (+2). Rounding out the A&M contingency were senior Mary Michael Maggio and junior Natalie Reeves, both of whom shot four over par during the first round.

“Katerina was solid today,” McCombs asserted. “She didn’t make very many mistakes. The weather today was fine and will probably be the best weather we will have for the tournament.”

The second round of the tournament will begin Monday at 9 a.m. (CT) with a shotgun start, with the Aggies pairing with Purdue and Oklahoma State. Live scoring for the event can be found at
