Aggie Pair Wins Doubles Title at Rice Invitational

HOUSTON – Texas A&M’s all-freshman doubles team of Stefania Hristov and Anna Mamalat won the Flight 1 doubles title at the Rice Fall Invitational today at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium. The Aggies defeated Edyta Cieplucha and Heidi Stewart of SMU, 8-4.

It was Cieplucha who had the upper hand in singles, as the No. 1 seed and 34th nationally ranked Mustang topped Hristov, 6-7, (4), 6-1, 6-1, in the championship match in the Flight 1 singles bracket.

In other singles action, Mamalat suffered a 7-5, 6-3 setback to Jessica Kahts of Texas State in the Flight 1 consolation bracket.

Next up for the Aggies is the ITA Texas Regionals to be played at Baylor in Waco, Texas, Oct. 19-23.
