COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- The No. 10-ranked Texas A&M women’s swimming and diving team kept pace with another solid day at the Southeastern Conference Championships on Thursday at the Student Recreation Natatorium.

The Aggies dropped a rung to third in the team standings with 659 points behind three-time defending SEC Champion Georgia (790) and Florida (676). Looking up at the Bulldogs, Gators and Aggies are Tennessee, Auburn, Missouri, LSU, Arkansas, Kentucky, Alabama, South Carolina and Vanderbilt.

A&M opened the meet with an impressive showing in the 400-yard IM with junior Cammile Adams and sophomore Sarah Henry taking second and third behind Florida Olympian Elizabeth Beisel, who turned in a time of 3:59.53. Adams, also a member of Team USA in London, touched in 4:02.12 and right behind was Henry in 4:03.75.

“It’s always fun to swim against Beisel,” Adams said. “She’s one of my best friends so that was exciting. I was happy about getting second and being so close to my best time. Getting to share that with Sarah is another cherry on top of the whole thing. She’s my biggest training partner, so it was awesome to be able to do that.”

The Aggies also received strong contributions from juniors Caroline McElhany and Paige Miller, who both turned in lifetime best and NCAA “A” cut swims in the 100-yard butterfly. McElhany took third in 51.86, while touched in fifth place in a time of 52.07.

“I was super-pleased with both our flyers,” Aggie head coach Steve Bultman said. “They both had lifetime bests and ‘A’ cuts. They were racing hard and they were right there. That was a really close race with just a few tenths separating first and sixth.”

A&M closed out the meet with sophomore Lili Ibanez taking sixth in the Championship final of the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:44.65.
