Aggie Women's Basketball Holds Annual Banquet

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Friends, family and fans joined together in the Zone Club at Kyle Field Tuesday evening to honor the 2013 Texas A&M women’s basketball team at the team’s annual awards banquet.

Head Coach Gary Blair recognized the supporters and shared his review of the season. The awards were kicked off with Blair announcing the Season’s Greatest Fans, Paul and Karman Rodgers of the Women’s Rowdies.

Highlighting the team’s honorees were the duo of junior center Kelsey Bone, recent No. 5 pick in the WNBA draft by the New York Liberty, and senior guard Adrienne Pratcher who shared the team’s Most Valuable Player award.

Bone was a consensus All-American and the SEC Tournament MVP last season, she scored the fourth most points in a single season in program history with 582 while ranking third in the SEC at 16.6 points per game. For her offensive efforts Bone also garnered the Miss Offense award.

Pratcher led the NCAA in assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.76 for the season and received All-SEC Second Team honors from the league’s coaches. The Memphis, Tenn. native finished her career with 326 career assists to rank ninth on the A&M all-time list.

Junior center Karla Gilbert collected multiple awards on the evening being recognized as Miss Aggie, 6th Man of the year and chosen for the Team Academic award. The College Station native appeared in every game this year providing a spark off the bench throughout the season, including a game saving performance in the SEC quarterfinal match-up with No. 14 South Carolina scoring 13 points helping the Aggies advance to win the SEC Tournament Championship.

The Miss Defense award was presented to senior forward Kristi Bellock. The St. Rose, La. native recorded all eight of her career double-doubles this year including 12 points and 12 rebounds against No. 9 Tennessee in the SEC Tournament. Bellock finished the season second on the team in rebounding placing 10th in the SEC.

Freshman guard Courtney Walker received the team’s Rookie Award following her stellar freshman season. Walker received SEC All-Freshman team honors from the league’s coaches and was tabbed as Second Team Freshman All-American by Walker, from Edmond, Okla., lead the team in minutes played and was second on the team in scoring. Walker also received the Class Star Award from Texas A&M Class Councils for her athletic success as a member of the Class of 2016.

Completing the awards for the evening were freshman guard Jordan Jones as Miss Hustle and freshman Rachel Mitchell as Most Improved. Jones, from Desoto, Texas, regularly provided an instant spark when Blair called her number and was a de-facto one-person press on multiple occasions. Mitchell, the Houston, Texas native, was regarded as improving her abilities throughout the season by Blair.

Additionally, several members of the athletic department, 12th Man Foundation and the Women’s Rowdies were recognized for their contributions to Aggie Basketball.

Pratcher, Bellock, Bone and Cierra Windham each shared their thoughts on their time in Aggieland with those in attendance and a season ending highlight video prepared by 12th Man Productions closed out the evening
