WACO, Texas – Members of the Texas A&M women’s tennis team continue to advance at the USTA/ITA Texas Regional at the Hurd Tennis Center on the Baylor campus.

“The competition has been tremendously fierce, but I’m certain that any Aggie fan would be every bit as proud of our ladies as I am,” A&M head coach Howard Joffe said. “They have played quite well so far and have remained focused each match.”

A&M senior and No. 1 seed Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar advanced to the semifinals in singles, winning her fourth consecutive match by defeating Noel Scott of Texas, 6-4, 6-2, in the quarterfinals. Scott had defeated A&M’s Wen Sun, 6-4, 6-2 in the round of 16 to advance.

Aggie junior Cristina Stancu also advanced to the semifinals with her fourth consecutive win, a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Samantha Adams of Texas Tech. Adams reached the quarterfinal round after topping Aggie freshman Stefania Hristov, 6-4, 6-0 in the Round of 16.

Sanchez-Quintanar and Stancu will square off in the semifinals Monday at 10:30 a.m. The winner will player the winner between Stefanie Tan of TCU and Ema Burgic of Baylor in the finals.

Stancu and Hristov pulled off a huge win in doubles, defeating No. 1 seat Adams and Kenna Kilgo, 9-7, to advance to the quarterfinals. The unseeded duo will face No. 7 seed Edyta Cieplucha and Alexandra Malyarchikova of SMU, Monday at 9 a.m.

Sun and partner Nazari Urbina also stayed alive and advanced to the quarterfinals in the bottom half of the doubles bracket after Kesley Sundaram and Tan withdrew. Sun and Urbina face No. 3 seed Natalie Beazant and Dominque Harmath of Rice, Monday at 9 a.m.
