NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana -- The Texas A&M women’s golf team finished the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate in 12th place after the second round was cancelled Monday due to inclement weather.

The Aggies (296-305=601) shot 17 over par Tuesday to bring its final score to 25 over par. UCLA (283-297=580) and USC (287-293=580) tied for first place, shooting only four over par for the tournament. USC won the tournament championship in a playoff with UCLA. Duke (+7) came in third, followed by Tulane (+13), Purdue (+15), LSU (+16), Alabama (+17), Baylor (+17), Texas (+19), Florida (+20) and Oklahoma State (+20). Trailing the Aggies were Ohio State (+30), Oregon (+35), Colorado (+37), Tulsa (+37), UTSA (+38) and Auburn (+41).

“The weather was tough on us in the beginning, but got better throughout the day,” head coach Trelle McCombs said following the tournament. “”We still saw some tough winds on the back nine.”

The Aggies’ top finisher was senior Sarah Beth Davis (74-73=147) who tied for 20th with a score of three over par. Juniors Chelsea Mocio (74-75=149) and Katerina Ruzickova (72-77=149) followed closely with each shooting five over par. Senior Mary Michael Maggio (76-80=156) and junior Natalie Reeves (76-83=159) rounded out the A&M contingency with scores of 12 and 15 over par, respectively.

“I saw Sarah at the 10th hole and told her to continue executing her shots,” McCombs added about Davis’ round. “She really played well down the stretch and finished with three strong birdies on her second nine.”

The Aggies will be back in action Mar. 31-Apr. 2 at the San Diego State Invitational in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.

“We have about a month off before our next tournament which gives us time to work on some things,” McCombs said about the time off. “We will get a few kinks ironed out and come out ready to contend in California.”
