COLLEGE STATION, Texas --- The Texas A&M swimming and diving teams tuned up for Saturday’s showdown with the LSU Tigers by sweeping the University of Incarnate Word on Friday at the Student Recreation Natatorium.
With Tigers on tap for a 1 p.m. dual on Saturday, the fifth-ranked Aggie women (6-1) tallied a 139-98 win over the Cardinals, while the A&M men (1-4) posted a 138-98 win.
The Aggies combined to win 20 events against Incarnate Word, with the women’s team notching 11 victories and the men taking nine wins. Leading the way were five Aggies that won multiple events: sophomore Sammie Bosma and senior Rebecca St. Germain from the women’s squad and junior Henrik Lindau, senior John Dalton and sophomore Ford McLiney for the men’s team.
Bosma won the 100 butterfly (55.79) and the 200 free (1:50.02), while St. Germain swept the dives with scores of 323.71 on the one-meter board and 3:40.43 on the three-meter. Lindau won the 50 free (20.69) and the 100 fly (49.32), Dalton won the 100 free (45.63) and the 200 free (1:39.75) and McLiney swept the one-meter dive (392.55) and the three-meter (391.35).
Contributing solo wins for the women’s team were senior Tess Simpson in the 1,000 free (10:22.67), junior Breeja Larson in the 200 IM (2:02.97), senior Meagan Hairston in the 100 back (56.91), junior Melane McClure in the 500 free (4:55.74) and junior Caroline McElhany in the 100 breast (1:04.13). The Aggies also swept both relays with the foursome of sophomore Kelli Benjamin, Larson, McElhany and Bosma taking the 200 medley relay in 1:41.74 and the group of Hairston, Larson, freshman Claire Brandt and sophomore Victoria Salinas taking the 200 free relay in 1:34.64.
Adding solo wins for the men’s squad were freshman Mitch Glander in the 1,000 free (9:27.76) and freshman Alexandros Theocharidis in the 100 back (49.61). The Aggies also won the 200 medley relay with the foursome of Theocharidis, senior John Wagner, Lindau and junior Kyle Troskot touching the wall in 1:31.21.
