COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The reigning SEC Western Division Champion Texas A&M Soccer team continues its spring season on Sunday (March 24) with a 3 pm match against the defending Conference USA co-champion Rice Owls at Ellis Field.

The game against the Owls is the fourth of five exhibition matches for the Aggies, who ended the 2012 season with an 18th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, a No. 14 national ranking and a 19-5-1 record. Texas A&M is 2-0-1 in the spring. Netminders Jordan Day and Renee McDermott have yet to allow a goal in 270 minutes of action. The Maroon and White toppled the Houston Cougars, 3-0, on Feb. 9 and edged The Nationals, a professional touring team from Austin, 1-0, on Feb. 16. In their last outing, the Aggies and Baylor Bears played to a 0-0 draw on March 1.

Texas A&M and Rice have not met in a regular-season game since September of 2008, with the Maroon and White earning a 2-1 decision. The Aggies are 3-0 all-time versus the Owls in the regular-season. The teams played an August exhibition in 2010, with the Aggies triumphing, 3-0.

The Aggies have a wealth of talent on offense as five of their top six scorers from 2012 return and four will take the pitch on Saturday, including Kelley Monogue (10 g), Shea Groom (5 g/7 a), Meghan Streight (3 g/6 a) and Allie Bailey (4 g/2 a). All-SEC goalkeeper Jordan Day also returns after a sophomore campaign in which she set a league record with 14 shutouts and posted a 0.63 goals-against average and 79 saves.

Rachel Lenz, Jackie Tondl and Karlie Mueller also return to an A&M defense that held opponents to 16 goals in 25 games.

The Owls are coming off an 11-7-3 season, earning a share of the Conference USA regular-season title with an 8-2-1 mark in league action. Rice is led by last year’s C-USA Freshman of the Year and NSCAA All-Central Region Second Team forward Holly Hargreaves and All-Central Region Second Team midfielder Quinney Truong. Hargreaves led the squad with 23 points and 10 goals as a freshman in 2012. Truong tallied two goals and two assists as a sophomore a year ago.

Sunday's match is FREE to the public. To learn more about Texas A&M Soccer, log on to or follow @AggieSoccer on Twitter.
