Aggies Slip to Fourth at Mercedes-Benz

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Texas A&M women’s golf team shot six-over par during the second round of the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships at the Holston Hills Country Club on Saturday to finish the day in fourth place.

A&M shot a second round team total of 294 and holds a two-day score of 585 (+9). Penn State currently leads the tournament with a two-day score of 580 (+4), closely followed by host Tennessee (+5) and Purdue (+8). Northwestern (+14) is now in fifth and UTSA (+15), Furman (+19), Iowa State (+20), Florida State (+26), Mississippi State (+27), East Carolina (+29), Miami (+34), Chattanooga (+42), James Madison (+46), Memphis (+49) and Eastern Kentucky (+76) fall in line consecutively.

Senior Mary Michael Maggio helped lead the team for the second day in the row by carding a second round score of 72 (E) and an overall two-day score of 143 (-1). Maggio is in sixth place individually, with fellow senior Sarah Beth Davis tied for ninth. Davis shot three-over par Saturday to bring her two-day score to 145 (+1). Sophomore Patricia Garcia (+4) is tied for 21st, while juniors Natalie Reeves and Chelsea Mocio round out the A&M team with scores of (+6) and (+9), respectively.

The third and final round of the tournament will begin Sunday morning at 8:00 a.m. (CST). The Aggies will tee off from the first hole starting at 8:50 a.m. and will be paired with Northwestern and UTSA. Live scoring for the event can be found at GolfStat.com.
