Aggies Top SHSU, UNT in Pair of Fall Softball Shutouts

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – In the Aggies’ final fall games of the 2012 season, the Texas A&M softball team recorded a 5-0 shutout of Sam Houston State and an 11-0 shutout against North Texas Sunday at the Aggie Softball Complex.
The Aggies end the fall exhibition season with a 7-1 record and will play their annual Maroon & White Series this week. The best-of-five scrimmage features games Monday-Friday (Thursday and Friday are if-necessary) that each start at 3:45 p.m. (CST). Each game will feature live audio on AggieAthletics.com.
In the shutout over the Bearkats, junior Cassie Tysarczyk hit the game winner – a three-run home run in the bottom of the first. Junior Jenna Stark also went yard with a solo home run in the second inning to give the Aggies a 4-0 lead over Sam Houston State.
A&M’s final run of the game came in the fourth inning on an RBI double by freshman Cali Lanphear. The left fielder was 1-for-2 on the game with a double and a walk.
Junior Emily Albus was 2-for-3 against the Bearkats with a pair of bunt singles and a run scored. Junior Taran Tyler was also 2-for-3, with two doubles and a run scored.
Senior Mel Dumezich and sophomore Lauren Ainsley combined for the shutout. Dumezich fanned three batters from the circle and allowed five hits through 4 2/3 innings, while Ainsley gave up two hits and struck out one in 2 1/3 innings of work.
The Aggies closed the day and the exhibition season with a 11-0 win against North Texas. A&M got an 8-0 jump on the Mean Green after two innings.
An RBI triple by Tysarczyk and an RBI groundout by junior Nicole Morgan gave the Aggies a pair of runs in the first inning. A&M batted through the lineup in the bottom of the second and used a two-RBI single by freshman Breanna Dozier, an RBI single by Albus, an error and a single by Morgan to gain six runs.
An RBI single by freshman Alex Masek and an RBI hit-by-pitch from sophomore Lauren Tamayo gave the Aggies two more runs and extended the A&M lead to 10-0 in the third.
Stark hit a sacrifice fly to right field in the bottom of the sixth to send the final 11-0 run home.
Ainsley threw a full game, allowing no runs on five hits and one walk while striking out 10 batters from the rubber.
