COLLEGE STATION – The Reveille Invitational on Saturday is the first of five home indoor track and field meets for Texas A&M as head coach Pat Henry begins his ninth season with the Aggies.
Houston and UT-San Antonio will join A&M in the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium for a two-hour meet, which starts at 4 p.m. General admission seating is $9 for adults and $5 for students while reserved seating is $20.
The Reveille Invitational features 11 events: 60, 800, Mile, 5000, 60 hurdles, 4x400 relay, high jump, pole vault, long jump, shot put and weight throw. A live webcast of the event is available through Aggieathletics.com and live results will be posted on flashresults.com.
With six national championship team titles over a three-year span from 2009 to 2011, Coach Henry and his staff have another squad favored to claim both men’s and women’s NCAA Outdoor Championships next June. An influx of new talent for the Aggies has scoring potential on the national level. Track & Field News magazine recently ranked the Aggie women No. 1 and the A&M men No. 4 in its recruiting class rankings.
Some of those highly touted newcomers make their debut this weekend for Texas A&M. Trinidad Olympian Janeil Bellille, the NJCAA champion in the 400 hurdles, will run on an Aggie 4 x 400 relay. Ashton Purvis, the 2010 High School Athlete of the Year, runs in the 60 meters along with Jennifer Madu, a four-event Texas state champion (100, 200, long jump, triple jump), who earned a pair of high school All-America honors from Track & Field News in the 100 meter and triple jump.
Aldrich Bailey, Jr., a prep All-America in the 200 and 400, headlines the men’s group as he enters a 60 meter field that includes Aggie veterans Prezel Hardy, Jr. and Michael Bryan. Bailey, who earned a bronze medal in the 400 at the 2012 World Junior Championships, will also be part of a potent A&M 4 x 400 relay that is anchored by Deon Lendore, an Olympic bronze medalist with Trinidad & Tobago’s relay this past summer. Hector Hernandez, who received high school All-America honors from Track & Field News, will run in the 800 meters.
