COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- The No. 13 Texas A&M men’s tennis team is set to open Southeastern Conference play against the No. 22 Florida Gators Friday evening at 6 p.m. at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center on Texas A&M’s west-campus.
The Aggies (9-4, 0-0) are back in action after splitting a set of road matches in the Sooner state topping No. 32 Tulsa and falling freshly-ranked No. 3 Oklahoma last weekend. In last Friday’s match the freshly minted No. 1 ranked doubles tandem of Junior Ore and Jackson Withrow topped the 20th ranked duo of Clifford Marsland and Dylan McCloskey of Tulsa. In Norman on Sunday, Harrison Adams registered a career high victory on court one over the 2nd ranked player in the country, Guillermo Alcorta of Oklahoma.
Florida (5-4, 0-0) faced off mid-week with in-state rival Florida State, winning 4-2 at the Perry Indoor Tennis Facility in Gainesville, Fla. The Gators feature two ranked double teams; ninth-ranked pair of Elliott Orkin and Gordon Watson along with the 26th ranked senior duo of Mike Alford and Stephane Piro. Additionally, the SEC East team lists a trio of ranked singles players; No. 48 Stephane Piro, No. 62 Elliott Orkin and No. 65 Spencer Newman.
Joining the first ranked doubles team for the maroon and white are No 37 Jeremy Efferding and Jordan Szabo. The Aggies match the Gators with three ranked singles players; No. 11 Harrison Adams, No. 26 Shane Vinsant and No. 38 Jeremy Efferding.
