Aggies Earn No. 3 Seed in NCAA Tournament

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The 14th-ranked Texas A&M women’s basketball team earned a No. 3 seed in its seventh consecutive NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship as the field of 64 was announced on Selection Monday.

A&M (22-10), which hosts the first and second rounds, is making its ninth all-time NCAA Tournament appearance and was one of 33 at-large teams selected for the 2012 championship. A&M is one of only four teams to be selected as a No. 4 seed or higher for six straight years.

The Aggies will face 14th-seeded Albany (23-9) in the first round of the Raleigh Regional to be held on Saturday, March 17 at 5:30 p.m. (CT). The game will be televised nationally on ESPN2. The winner will move on to the second round and meet either sixth-seeded Arkansas (23-8) or 11th-seeded Dayton (23-6) on Monday, March 19 at 8:30 p.m. (CT). Both games will be held at Reed Arena.

A&M was one of seven Big 12 Conference schools to dance in March along with top-seeded Baylor, sixth-seeded Oklahoma, eighth-seeded Kansas State, ninth-seeded Texas, 10th-seeded Iowa State and 11th-seeded Kansas. The Big 12 was the league with the second-most teams in the tournament, next to the Big East and the Southeastern Conference with eight teams each.

The Aggies will meet Albany for the first time in the 38-year history of the program. Arkansas leads 20-2 in the all-time series, while A&M would also face Dayton for the first time. Albany is one of just three teams to make its first trip to the Big Dance in this year’s tournament field.
