Allen Academy Basketball is State Bound

Posted: Tue 3:47 PM, Feb 26, 2013

This week marks the culmination of the Texas Christian Athletic League (T-CAL) basketball season, both for girls and boys, as the State Championships will be held in Frisco, Texas on Thursday, Friday and Saturday (Feb 28 – Mar 2). Bryan Allen Academy’s teams are looking for a couple of repeat performances. Last season the girl’s team won the coveted award for the first time in several years, and the boy’s team won for the second year in a row. Therefore, while the girls are anxious for a repeat, the boys are excited to be playing for a three-peat!

The girls have had an up and down year (15 – 21), with several great victories, but never could seem to string them together. Last Friday, however, they may have played their most complete game of the year, as they defeated Bryan Harmony Science for the number #1 seed in Class 2A Region 3. Sabha Dosani (10 ppg) and Paige Shenkir (9 ppg and 11 rpg) have led the young Rams, who featured only one senior. Their first round opponent will be Phoenix Charter at 1 PM in the Frisco Field House.

The boys have had a wonderful season and own a sparkling 28-10 record. Included in their wins are several victories against UIL schools and TCAL 3A teams. Led by their senior point guard, Michael Homann, the Rams are also the number #1 seed from Class 2A Region 3. Homann has been averaging just under 20 ppg and is vying for the T-CAL 2A Player of the Year honors. Judd Horton, the Rams’ 6’7” junior center, has averaged a double-double in points (11 ppg) and rebounds (10 rpg). The Rams are a young club also, and start a 10th grader, Jake Georgiades, a ninth grader, Cody Vega, and a seventh grader, Steven Henderson.

The boy Rams will tip off their tournament participation with a 10 AM game vs. Tyler King School, also at the Frisco Field House. All second round games are at the Frisco Field House, but both girl’s and boy’s finals are at Forrester Field House on the campus at Fair Park on Saturday afternoon.
