NASHVILLE, Tenn. Athlon Sports, publisher of the No. 1-selling college football magazine, has announced that the Texas A&M Aggies have been named the No. 9 team in its preseason Top 25 poll. The countdown commences every year at www.AthlonSports.com in early May and leads to the on-sale date of Athlon's category-leading college football preseason annuals on May 28.

Kevin Sumlin’s Texas A&M Aggies appear on the countdown with three preseason All-Americans and eight players selected as All-SEC performers. Athlon Sports predicts Texas A&M will finish second in the SEC West.

“Texas A&M made a big splash in its first season in the SEC, and with one of the nation’s most potent offenses, this team should once again score a ton of points,” says Athlon Sports Executive Editor Mitch Light. “If the defense can do its part, the Aggies will contend for an SEC title.”

Three standout players were named as preseason All-Americans, with quarterback Johnny Manziel and offensive tackle Jake Matthews being voted to the first team, and wide receiver Mike Evans to the third team. Eight Aggies earned preseason All-SEC honors, including Manziel and Matthews on the first team; Evans and cornerback Deshazor Everett on the second team; and running back Ben Malena, offensive guard Jarvis Harrison, offensive tackle Cedric Ogbuehi, and kick returner Trey Williams on the third team.

In addition, the quarterbacks unit was rated No. 1 in the country and best in the SEC. The running back unit was tabbed No. 5 in the nation and ranked third in their conference. The offensive line unit was ranked No. 6 in the nation and second in their conference.

Last year, Athlon Sports was the most accurate preseason magazine in prediction accuracy.*
