Bearkat Men’s Golf Second at Charleston Shootout

HUNTSVILLE, Texas -- The Sam Houston men’s golf team finished as runner-up at the Charleston Shootout at the Links at Stono Ferry Monday and Tuesday.

The Bearkats sat in fourth Monday as play was suspended in the second round due to darkness on the par 72, 6,756 yard course.

Logan Boatner led the way for the Kats after shooting a 68 in the second round. He birdied six holes to put up his best competitive round of the season. He finished tied for seventh in the event (76-68-75-219). He finished just three strokes back of the winner.

Albert Minor finished tied for 11th after he shot a 71 in the first round which included five birdies. His final two round scores were 75 and 74. Minor was just a stroke back of Boatner.

The Bearkats finished just five strokes off the tournament winners South Carolina-Upstate (881) and finished just four strokes ahead of third-place team Bethune-Cookman (890).

J.T. Taylor finished 22nd (78-72-74-224), Justin McKay was 32nd (76-75-75-226) and Chase Chapman was 57th (75-82-78-235).

Sam Houston will head to the Border Olympics in Laredo March 15-16.
