HUNTSVILLE, Texas The Sam Houston State women’s soccer team returns to Pritchett Field for the second of six consecutive games on their home field, to face Lamar Friday at 7 p.m.
It’s another Free Food Friday before the game. The first 100 students in attendance get free food from McKenzie’s Barbecue.
Even though it’s early in the conference season, the Bearkats know that each game is vital. With just two points separating the Kats from the Cardinals in the standings a home win could go a long way to securing a berth in the Southland post season tournament.
“We’re excited to be playing at home and we’re looking forward to building on our play from last weekend,” Bearkat head coach Tom Brown said. “Even though we didn’t get the results we wanted, a lot of the things we have been working on came together. We’ll be looking to build on that and get the ball in the back of the net.”
The Cardinals (4-8-1, 1-4-1 SLC) split a pair of road games last week, grabbing a 2-1 victory at Nicholls before dropping a 3-1 decision at Southeastern Louisiana. Those games saw the Cardinals score their first goals in conference play this season.
Kimmy Albeno leads Lamar in scoring with 13 points on six goals and one assist. Hernandez has four goals and three assists to sit in second on the team in scoring with 11 points.
“Lamar brings in a very experienced squad that made it to the conference finals last year. They haven’t had the results they’ve been hoping for from a veteran team but I know they have the ability to compete and make it tough for us Friday night.”
The Kats will be back at Pritchett Friday Oct. 18 against Central Arkansas at 7 p.m.
