Sam Houston returns home after a tough road trip to Southeastern Louisiana and Oral Roberts where the Bearkats tallied a 0-0 draw and a 1-0 loss in extra time. The Kats will try to get back on track against Northwestern State at Pritchett Field at 7 p.m. Friday.

The Bearkats sit second in the Southland with a 2-1-1 conference record while Northwestern State is eighth at 0-2-1. The Kats are led offensively by junior Tricia Mallory with three goals and senior Kirby Zak with two goals and two assists.

In the net, the Kats have freshman Kylie Hambleton who is already one of the top goalkeepers in the league. Hambleton ranks third in the SLC in goals against average, second in save percentage, and she has recorded four shutouts in just ten games.

Hambleton is helped by a strong defense in front of her. The stingy Sam Houston back line ranks third in the conference in goals allowed and goals against average. The Kats have only allowed two goals in four conference games while recording two shutouts.

This season, Northwestern State has relied heavily on their ‘keeper Brooke Bourbonais. The Demons’ stopper leads the league in saves with 74 and saves per game at 5.69.

In Northwestern State’s last match they were defeated by league-leaders Stephen F. Austin 3-0.

Friday night’s game is “Free Food Friday”. The first 100 students in attendance will receive FREE Pizza Hut and 3 Spoons yogurt.

The next action for Sam Houston is at SFA the following Friday Oct. 19 at 7 p.m.
