Bearkat Women Beat Northwestern State 72-61

HUNTSVILLE, TX -- The Bearkats, led by Britni Martin and Sequeena Thomas, never trailed in a dominating 72-61 win over Northwestern State.

Britni Martin scored 21 points and had seven assists. Martin was five-of-nine from three-point range and a perfect four-of-four from the free throw line.

Sequeena Thomas was dominant in the paint for the Bearkats. Thomas had 19 points and 13 rebounds and scored three of the team’s first four baskets.

The Bearkats had a nine point lead at the break. Britni Martin hit a three with 15 seconds until halftime before Northwestern State point guard Janelle Perez hit a jumper at the buzzer.

After the Demons’ got to within five points, at 58-53 with 4:56 left in the second half, the Bearkats went on a 12-0 run and ended the Demons’ hopes. The game clinching 12-0 run was started by a Britni Martin three pointer.

Jazmin Wiley was also in double figures for the Bearkats with 11 points. Jasmine Johnson added seven points, six assists, and five rebounds. Angela Beadle had seven points and six boards while Chanice Smith had five points and six boards.

The Demons had four players score in double figures. Keisha Lee had 15 points and Janelle Perez had 14. Jasmine Upchurch had 13 points and nine rebounds and Danielle Westerfield added 10 points.

The Bearkats are on the road this weekend as they play at Lamar Thursday night and at McNeese Saturday afternoon.
