Bearkat men take down Hardin-Simmons

Huntsville -- Four players led by Will Bond with 14 points scored in double figures as Sam Houston State opened its 2012-13 home schedule Tuesday with an 82-31 victory over Hardin-Simmons.

Sam Houston (1-1) never trailed, jumping out to a 16-7 lead in the first seven minutes and leading by as many as 54 points before the game was done.

Hardin-Simmons (0-1) was led by Eric Taylor with 11 points.

Sam Houston scored 35 points over the Cowboys' 27 turnovers wiwth Darius Gatson leading the Kats with five of SHSU's 25 steals.

Marquel McKinney scored 13 points and Jeremy McKay and James Thomas also totaled 12 points for the Kats.

Sam Houston State heads to Bloomington, Ind., to take on No. 1 Indiana Thursday night in the first round of the Progressive Legends CLassic tournament.
