Oral Roberts handed the Sam Houston women’s basketball team an 80-50 Southland Conference loss Sunday afternoon at the Mabee Center in Tulsa.
The loss was Sam Houston’s fourth in a row since defeating Northwestern State Feb. 13 as the Bearkats dropped to 11-16 for the year and 6-10 in conference play. Oral Roberts now stands 9-17 for the season and 8-8 in the league.
Angela Beadle led Sam Houston scorers with 11 points. Taylor Dorsey scored 10 points and Nyha Carter added nine. Carter led the Kats with 10 rebounds while Beadle pulled down eight boards. Amanda Barnes totaled five assists.
Dorottya Balla, one of five Golden Eagle players to score in double figures, led ORU with 17 points.
Carter gave Sam Houston its last lead with a bucket with 10:35 remaining in the first half to put the Kats up 13-12. ORU, which scored 31 points off Bearkat turnovers for the game, broke away with an 18-2 run to go up 30-15 and never looked back.
Sam Houston hit only 35 percent from the floor (21-of-61) and 12 percent from beyond the arc (2-of-17) while the Golden Eagles hit a hot 51 percent from the field (26-of-51).
The Bearkats will close out the regular season with a pair of games next weekend, facing Southeastern Louisiana at 5:30 p.m. Thursday and New Orleans at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
