HUNTSVILLE, TX -- Sam Houston State will play its final men’s basketball non-conference game against Eastern Washington in Cheney on Saturday, Feb. 13, the Southland Conference has announced.

Tipoff time for the game has yet to be announced.

The contest is part of a 10-game package of Southland Conference teams matched against teams from other conferences with similar standings in the NCAA national men’s basketball RPI.

League leaders Stephen F. Austin State will play at Long Beach State and Northwestern State will travel to Niagara on games that will be telecast nationally. The SFA contest will be featured on ESPNU on Sunday, Feb. 22 at 8 p.m. while the Demons’ game will be telecast on ESPN3 on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 2 p.m.

Other non-conference games on Feb. 23 have Cal State Fullerton at A&M-Corpus Christi; Weber at Oral Roberts, SIU-Edwardsville at Central Arkansas; McNeese State at Toledo; Nicholls at Texas-San Antonio and Southeastern Louisiana at Winthrop.

Sam Houston stands 0-2 against Eastern Washington in the pair’s previous men’s basketball meetings. EWU won 111-84 in Huntsville in 1996 and 85-63 in Cheney in 1997.

The Bearkat men play host to McNeese State in a Southland Conference game this Thursday at 7:45 p.m. at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.

Thursday is “Whataburger Night” at Johnson with special prizes for fans in a halftime contest.

Thursday’ game also will feature a special halftime recognition of the 2012 Sam Houston football team that won the Southland Conference championship, defeated Cal Poly, Montana State and Eastern Washington to reach the NCAA Division I National Championship game and ended No. 2 in the final Football Championship Subdivision national rankings for the second year in a row.

The game will be telecast on ESPN3.

The slate of non-conference games announced today for Feb. 22-23 are a result of ESPN Bracketbusters.
