Led by a strong defensive effort, the Bearkats beat the Liberty Flames 64-50 in day two of the Legends Classic Huntsville subregional.

James Thomas added 13 points and eight rebounds for the Bearkats. The junior transfer from Navarro Junior College was 5-7 from the free throw line. Darius Gatson had 7 points for the Bearkats with a pair of threes. Michael Holyfield had five points, six rebounds and a block.
Sam Houston had a 24-15 lead at half but came out of the break on fire with a 10-2 run. After a Liberty three pointer, the Kats went on an 11-2 run, keyed by a Terrance Motley two-handed dunk, that grew the Bearkat lead to 45-25.
The Flames were led by Davon Marshall with 15 points off a trio of threes. JR Coronado had eight boards for Liberty. John Caleb Sanders had seven points and five rebounds.
