Hattiesburg, Miss. – Albert Miner of Sam Houston State finished eighth in the individual medalist race as the Bearkat men’s golf team placed 10th in their first tournament of the 2012 fall schedule at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Southern Mississippi.
The 54-hole event was played on the par 71, 6,882-yard course at Hattiesburg Country Club.
Mississippi won the team title with an 845 total, edging rival Mississippi State by one stroke.
South Alabama was third with an 850 score, followed by Louisiana Tech 851, Southeastern Louisiana and Samford 853, Southern Mississippi 660, Louisiana-Lafayette 864 and Arkansas-Little Rock 865.
Finishing behind the 10th place Bearkats who fired a two-day total of 286-286-295—867 were Texas-San Antonio 872, Louisiana-Monroe 875, Arkansas State 878, Rice 883 and McNeese State 900.
Miner finished six strokes behind individual medalist champion Victor Lange of Louisiana Tech. Miner’s card read 69-71-71—211.
Other Sam Houston scores and finishes included Justin McKay (75-69-74—218) and J. T. Taylor (71-74-73—218) tied for 34th, Logan Boatner (71-72-77—220) 43rd and Chase Chapman (78-80-77—235) 81st.
