DENTON, TEXAS The Blinn College dance team continued its dominating run at the annual American Collegiate Championship on Saturday.
The team beat out Neosho County (Kan.), Lone Star College Cy-Fair, Pearl River, Trinity Valley and McLennan for its fourth consecutive Division III title.
“It was really good to hear from other people how good the girls looked, how clean we performed and how much they loved the theme of our routine,” dance coach Sarah Barland said.
Blinn’s performance incorporates a mix of hip-hop, pom and jazz dance.
The team finished second overall in total points accumulated in the competition, beating out teams from the University of Houston, Baylor University, Southern Methodist University, among others.
Sophomores Roxanne Guerra and Katie Macinch each tied for second runner-up with their solo performances.
Barland said the competition served as a good warm-up to the NCA & NDA National Cheer and Dance Championship April 9-13 in Daytona Beach, Fla. On Sunday, the cheer and dance teams held their annual Blinn College Showoff on the Brenham campus with teams from Stephen F. Austin State University and Sam Houston State University. The teams performed for a crowd of more than 300 people.
“Winning Saturday’s competition is only going to help build the girls’ confidence going into Daytona,” Barland said. “Any time we’re able to perform in front of hundreds of people helps get the jitters out.”
