BRENHAM, Texas – The Blinn College softball team honored its five sophomores Saturday afternoon at Hohlt Park. Then those sophomores led the Buccaneers past the Galveston Whitecaps.
After dropping the opening game of the double-header 5-0, the Bucs bounced back with a 10-6 victory to improve to 22-17 on the season and 8-6 in the Region XIV Conference.
Sophomore pitcher Caitie Carney (6-6) earned the win, scattering eight hits and two walks while working around four Buccaneer errors.
She was supported by an offense that scored seven first-inning runs, including RBIs from sophomores Kristina Davila, Shelbe Sterling, Christa Hartnett and Carney herself. Freshmen Peyton Webb and Sydney Wellmann also drove in runs for the Buccaneers.
Freshman pitcher Shannon O’Connor (12-9) took the loss in the opening contest. Sophomore outfielder Tiffani McKnight went 2-for-3 and Webb doubled.
The Buccaneers play their final home games of the season Wednesday when they host Lamar State – Port Arthur for a 2 p.m. double-header at Hohlt Park.
