Blinn wins two of three at Region XIV Round Robin

LONGVIEW, Texas – The second-ranked Blinn College softball team won two out of three on the second day of the Region XIV Round Robin.
Blinn defeated Midland 14-1 in five innings, lost to Navarro 8-2 and defeated Trinity Valley 12-2 in five innings.
Freshman pitcher Shannon O’Connor (6-5) earned both wins for the Buccaneers. She scattered four hits and a walk and struck out five in the win over Midland.
The Bucs supported her with a nine-run third inning as Tiffani McKnight hit a two-run single, Webb smacked an RBI single and Taylor Guidry and Caitie Carney followed with two-run doubles.
Peyton Webb added an RBI single in the fourth, and in the fifth the Buccaneers rallied for four runs as Marissa Purcell hit an RBI single and McKnight hit a three-run home run.
Carney (2-4) took the loss against Navarro, allowing six hits and walking three while the defense committed four errors behind her. Navarro jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two innings.
Guidry hit a solo home run in the fifth and Kristina Davila added an RBI single in the sixth for Blinn.
O’Connor scattered six hits to earn the win against Trinity Valley.
Davila went 3-for-3 with a double, a home run and four RBIs, and Shelbe Sterling and Webb each went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs.
The Buccaneers are 12-11 on the season. They conclude the tournament Sunday when they play Northeast Texas at 9 a.m. and Bossier Parish at 1 p.m.
