Blinn Softball Advances To Conference Semis

LUFKIN, TX -- The sixth-ranked Blinn College softball team advanced to the Region XIV Tournament semifinals here Friday night with a 4-0 victory over the Alvin Dolphins.

Sophomore pitcher Kaci Federwisch, who was named the Region XIV Player of the Year on Wednesday, improved to 24-6 while holding the Dolphins to just four hits. She struck out five and walked none.

Blinn (47-8) scored all four of its runs in the first inning. Leandra Maly and Tiffani McKnight each drew walks before Thomasina Garza hit an RBI single and Kristina Davila smacked an RBI double. Garza later scored on a passed ball.

The Buccaneers opened the tournament Thursday with a 3-2 victory over Bossier Parish.

Blinn will play in the semifinal game at 3 p.m. Saturday. The winner of that game will advance to Sunday’s 12:30 p.m. championship game while the loser would play in an elimination game at 10 a.m. Sunday.

The winner of the Region XIV Tournament earns a spot in the NJCAA National Championships May 17-19 in St. George, Utah.
