Blinn softball concludes tournament with win over Navarro
Fourth-ranked Buccaneers finish 3-3 at season-opening Round Robin

BRENHAM, Texas – The fourth-ranked Blinn College softball team split a pair of games Sunday afternoon to conclude the Blinn Round Robin at Hohlt Park, falling to 10th-ranked Northeastern Oklahoma A&M 2-0 but bouncing back with a 5-0 win over Navarro College.

Blinn’s bats were cold in the first game of the day, and Brenham High School product Kaci Federwisch took a tough-luck loss, but the Buccaneers bounced back in the tournament finale. Kris Davila went 2-for-3 and Shannon Sain, Amy Acheson and Michelle Svehla each drove in runs.

Sain earned the win inside the circle. She had missed the first two days of the tournament to attend her grandmother’s funeral.

“I think she handled it very well,” Blinn coach Rick Church said. “She came out and focused on the team and on having a good performance and that’s what she did. She pitched a heck of a game.”

Sophomore pitcher Jocelyn Tacquard was unavailable due to a strained pectoral muscle.

Blinn finished its season-opening tournament with a 3-3 record, with all three losses coming to top-10 teams.

“These are the kinds of teams we’re always going to invite to our tournament because the chances of someone coming out of there unblemished are very unlikely,” Church said. “They’re all very talented teams.”

The Buccaneers’ next action will come at the Midland Tournament Feb. 17-18.
