BRENHAM, Texas -- Klartel Claridy is becoming quite the running back for the Blinn College football team.
Claridy, a sophomore from Brenham, was named the Southwest Junior College Football Conference (SWJCFC) Offensive Player of the Week for his dominating performance over the Kilgore Rangers Saturday. Quarterback Garry Kimble and linebacker Ken Butler received honorable mention recognition by the conference.
Claridy rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns in Blinn’s 22-17 victory over the Rangers.
“He’s done really well as a sophomore,” head football coach Ronny Feldman said. “He’s worked extremely hard, learned the system and familiarized himself with the system. We’re really proud of him and what he’s accomplished.”
Claridy has worked his way as the Buccaneers’ lead running back, where he’s rushed for 595 yards through six games. He’s scored eight touchdowns and is averaging nearly 100 yards per game.
Like Claridy, Kimble torched the Rangers’ defense for another 110 yards on the ground as the Bucs picked up 237 total rushing yards in the game.
“He had a great game offensively and really executed the option,” Feldman said.
Butler had 10 tackles for the Bucs defense –– seven solo, three assisted and three for a loss –– and a forced fumble.
“He was in on a lot of plays,” Feldman said. “He played a great game.”
Blinn (3-3, 2-1 SWJCFC) returns home for the first time in a month Saturday at 5 p.m. against Trinity Valley Community College.
