Sophomore Blinn College outfielder Tiffani McKnight has been named an NJCAA Division I All-American and a National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Midwest Region selection after leading the Buccaneers to 34 victories and an appearance in the Region XIV Conference Tournament semifinals.
Pitcher Shannon O’Connor, third baseman Peyton Webb and center fielder Christa Hartnett were each named to the second-team NFCA All-Midwest Region team in addition to McKnight’s first-team recognition. The NFCA is expected to name its All-America team in early June.
McKnight, a sophomore left fielder from Missouri City, led the Buccaneers with a .466 batting average. She hit 10 doubles, 10 home runs, drove in 46 runs and stole 15 bases to earn first-team All-Region XIV Conference and All-Region XIV South Zone honors.
As a freshman, McKnight hit .379 with nine doubles, nine homers, 51 RBIs and 17 stolen bases. She is the 24th Blinn player to earn All-America honors since 1996 and has signed a letter of intent to play at the University of Houston next season.
“When you hit over .400 and you have the RBIs and the hits and the power numbers she has, it’s certainly well deserving,” said Blinn head coach Rick Church. “She’s certainly one of the best offensive players we’ve had here at Blinn.”
O’Connor, a freshman from Houston’s Dobie High School, went 19-11 for the Buccaneers with a 2.46 ERA and 164 strikeouts in 202 innings pitched. She averaged 5.68 strikeouts per appearance and was named to the second-team All-Region XIV and first-team All-South Zone rosters.
Webb, a freshman from Montgomery High School, hit .380 this season with 14 doubles, six homers and 42 RBIs. She scored 29 runs and struck out just five times in 177 plate appearances. She was named to the first-team All-Region XIV and All-South Zone squads.
Hartnett, a sophomore from Cypress Fairbanks High School, posted a .328 batting average with four doubles, one triple and 13 RBIs. She scored 42 runs and stole a team-leading 17 bases. She was also named to the second-team All-South Zone team.
Blinn finished this season with a 34-20 record and reached the Region XIV Conference Tournament semifinals. The program has made NJCAA National Championships appearances in 2003, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.
